We thank Kay for putting together these notes:

Information from 4 August

  • Coffee meetings will continue on 1st Tuesday of the month. A second meeting to be held in 3rd week of the month will meet on different days, times and venues.
  • Fraudulent documents. What should JPs do if they are aware that they are being presented with a fraudulent document, either for certified copy or other matters? MR to send question to QJA.
  • Witnessing NSW EPA. JPs in NSW or elsewhere are not eligible to witness. Kay tried to download a NSW EPA form however they are not available without registering contact details.

Issues and discussion

  • QLD Courts workshop. MR wrote a brief report with subsequent updates that include a link to the slides which were eventually sent by JP Branch
  • NSW Probate Affidavit. The original Will and Death Certificate are required as annexures to the Affidavit. The JP is required to sign these in the margin of the original.
  • JPs in the Community Volunteers Information Package. MR discussed meeting with JP Branch and contents of the Package. JPS will be required to fill out a registration form which will be sent by JP Branch by email in the near future.
  • Queensland Atlas is being converted to a new sight called Queensland Globe. MR to follow up.
  • QLD UCPR Affidavit proforma. Kay sent a link to the many affidavit forms on the Uniform Civil Procedure Rules 1999 page. General view was that this is relevant for Courts and it is unlikely to be presented in general signing sights and has more relevance to those signing at courthouses.
  • Federal/Family court Annexures. Annexure numbering starts at first page of annexure, i.e. page 1 and continues consequentially to the last page of the last annexure. The Affidavit is numbered independently. LM later confirmed this in a separate note.
